Growth and Change

LeadingAge Maryland is pleased to welcome new members Edenwald and Baywoods of Annapolis, as well as new business associate members Functional Pathways and Labor4orce. We look forward to their participation in our community.

And, we look forward to seeing everyone at the Ziegler/LeadingAge Maryland Finance and Strategy Symposium on November 30; the LeadingAge DC, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia Marketing Symposium on December 5; and the Ingleside King Farm/ LeadingAge Maryland Dementia Symposium on December 15.

While we are looking ahead with great anticipation and have exciting things on the horizon for 2018, we are also saying goodbye. Deborah Adler will be leaving LeadingAge Maryland in mid-December, though she will be doing some contract work with us after that. We are grateful for her significant contributions during her time with us. She has grown the Peer Networks; shepherded the education program including Tuesday Stand Up calls; established new communication vehicles; developed good relationships with members; and has turned her hand with good spirit to whatever needs to be done. Deborah is looking forward to her next opportunity in the field of aging.

We are also saying thank you and goodbye to several LeadingAge Maryland board members who are completing their terms of service: Yolanda Johnson, Doug Leidig, Ed Mallick and Robin Somers. These folks were among those founding board members who have launched LeadingAge Maryland. We will be welcoming new board members in January – Bill Holman, John Howl, Candace McMullen and Steve Powell.

Growth and change indeed!

December 12, 2017, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Free

Person-directed practices empower adult day teams to be highly responsive and creative care partners to those who live with dementia. The key is to reframe so-called “behaviors” as the unmet needs that the individual is trying to communicate.  Participants will explore specific tools designed to highlight and address expressions of need, which include seven domains of well-being and the antidotes to loneliness, helplessness, and boredom.  These impactful approaches are highly practical, proactive rather than reactive, and also prepare teams to meet regulatory expectations that are increasingly focused on practices that put the person first. There is no need to pre-register. Simply join the meeting by Skype right before. Then call 240-669-5802 and use conference ID 357949.
